Precision High Power Thin Film Chip Resistors
January, 2011: Vishay Intertechnology’s New PHP Series of Precision, High-Power Thin Film Chip Resistors Offers TCR to ±25 ppm/°C, Tolerances
to ±0.1 %, and Power Ratings of 1 W in 1206 and 2.5 W in 2512 Case Sizes.
Vishay Intertechnology, today introduced the new PHP series of precision high-power thin film chip resistors. The devices feature a low
absolute TCR of ±25 ppm/°C, tolerances down to ±0.1 %, and high power ratings from 1.0 to 2.5 W over a wide temperature range of - 55°C to + 125°C.
With stable film and performance characteristics of 1000 ppm at + 70°C for 2000 hours, the devices released
today are optimized for high-precision medical imaging, and industrial, telecommunications, and test and measurement instrumentation and equipment.
Featuring a high-purity ceramic substrate, the PHP series chip resistors are designed with enlarged backside terminations
to reduce the thermal resistance between the topside resistor layer and the solder joint on the end users’ circuit board.
Offered in the 1206 and 2512 case sizes, the PHP series offers a resistance range from 10Ω to 30 kΩ, with non-standard values
available. The resistors feature 2x the power rating over traditional thin film chip resistors in the same case sizes, low noise
of < - 30 dB, low voltage coefficients of 0.1 ppm/V, and voltage ratings from 100 V to 200 V. Available with lead (Pb)-free or l
ead terminations, the devices are RoHS-compliant and flame-resistant in accordance to UL 94 V-0.
Samples and production quantities of the PHP series are available now with lead times of 10 to 12 weeks for standard orders.

Vishay Intertechnology's PLTT Precision Low-TCR, High-Temperature Thin Film Resistor Enhanced With Extended Resistance Range From 250 Ohms
to 3 Megohms and New 1206, 2010, and 2512 Case Sizes
Jun 20, 2011 - Vishay today announced that its PLTT precision low-TCR, high-temperature thin film resistor is now offered in the 0805, 1206, 2010,
and 2512 case sizes and features an expanded resistance range from 250 ohms to 3 megohms, with non-standard values available.
The PLTT resistor's wide operating temperature range of - 55°C to + 215°C provides nearly a 100°C extension over traditional thin film chip resistors.
The device features a low standard TCR of 5 ppm/°C, tolerances down to 0.02 %, very low noise of less than - 35 dB, and low voltage coefficients of 0.1
ppm/V. The PLTT offers a power rating from 250 mW to 1000 mW and operates over a 100 V to 200 V working voltage range.
With stable film and performance characteristics of 500 ppm at + 215°C for 2000 hours, the resistor is optimized for the low-noise,
single-signal processing required to compensate for low offset and temperature drift in high-temperature environments, including down-hole
applications, high-precision oil and gas exploration, and telecommunications and industrial equipment.
The PLTT features a high-purity ceramic substrate, 10 to 20 microinch gold terminations over a nickel barrier for high-temperature HMP
soldering, and corrosion-resistant special passivation method (SPM) enhancement. The resistor is compliant with RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC,
halogen-free according to the IEC 61249-2-21 definition, and flame-resistant in accordance to UL 94 V-0.
Samples and production quantities of the enhanced PLTT resistor are available now, with lead times of 10 to 12 weeks for standard orders.

MIL-PRF-55342 Qualified T-Level for Space Applications
Vishay Intertechnology, today announced that it has extended its E/H MIL-PRF-55342 -qualified Thin Film surface-mount resistor
chips in the 0505, 1005, 1505, 0705, 1206, and 1010 case sizes to offer a “T” reliability level for space applications.
Qualification on larger cases sizes is pending.
The enhanced resistors’ established reliability is assured through 100% screening and extensive environmental testing that includes
100% group A, power conditioning, and Group B lot testing, through which the devices have been rated and approved for a “T” reliability level.
The MIL-PRF-55342 Thin Film resistors were verified in qualification to the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM E-595) standard
test method for total mass loss (TML) and collected volatile condensable materials (CVCM) from outgassing in a vacuum environment for space
level requirements. In addition, the resistors undergo a burn-in period prior to shipment.
Intended for high-reliability military and aerospace applications with stringent performance requirements, the resistors’
all-sputtered wrap around terminations ensure excellent adhesion and dimensional uniformity. The MIL-PRF-55342 Thin Film
devices feature a passivated Nichrome resistive element, while their high-purity alumina substrate allows for high power ratings to 500mW.
In addition to very low noise of less than − 25 dB and a low voltage coefficient of <0.1 ppm/V, the resistors offer an absolute
TCR down to ± 25 ppm/°C, tolerances down to 0.1%, and a resistance range from 10Ω to 1.69MΩ, depending on case size and characteristics.
The MIL-PRF-55342 Thin Film devices provide a shelf-life stability of ±0.01% and operate over a temperature range of - 55°C to + 125°C.
Offered in waffle pack or tape-and-reel packaging, production quantities of the new devices are available now, with lead times of 16 to 20 weeks.
